What is meant by Neutralization Reaction? |
Neutralisation reaction is the process due to which H+ ions of an acid react completely or combine with OH- ions of a base to give salt and water . Acid +Base _________> salt + water Example : HCl + NaOH _________> NaCl + H2O H+ Cl- + Na+OH- _________> Na +Cl- + H2O During neutralisation the hydrogen ion (H+ ) or proton from the acid is neutralised by the hydroxyl ions OH- from the alkali to form a water molecule . Thus HCl donates a H+ ion that is proton to the OH - ion of NaOH which accepts the proton forming water . |
