what is benzene?

Benzene is a ring of six carbon atoms with alternate double and single bonds. Benzene has a cyclic planar ,hexagonal structure .All carbon bond lengths are identical and are intermediate between normal C-C single bonds and C=C  double bonds .All hydrogens in benzene are equivalent .All carbon atoms in benzene are sp2 hybridised .Typical reactions of benzene are substitution reactions.Addition reactions can be induced ,but special conditions are necessary .
