what is amplification?

Amplification is the process of increasing the strength of the signal. Often an “amplifier” is used to pass a signal with both an increase and a decrease in gain. An electronic amplifier, amplifier, or (informally) amp is an electronic device that increases the power of a signal. It does this by taking energy from a power supply and controlling the output to match the input signal shape but with a larger amplitude. In this sense, an amplifier modulates the output of the power supply. The amplification factor, also called gain, is the extent to which an analog amplifier  boosts the strength of a signal. Amplification factors are usually expressed in terms of power.
