explain reimer tieman reaction of organic compounds?
The reaction of phenol with chloroform in the presence of aqueous alkali at 340 K followed by hydrolysis of the resulting product gives o-hydroxy benzaldehyde, salicyaldehyde .This reaction is called Reimer -Tiemann reaction .
