What is a pole star ?

The Pole Star or Polaris is visible towards the north, and is the only star that appears to remain stationary in the sky,and all other constellations appear to revolve around it.This is because the pole star lies on the axis of rotation of the earth. The position of the pole star does not change with time as the earth spins about its own axis.
