why do we say 'the' in a sentence?

Definite article -The

There are two types of articles in English.
1.Indefinite article -a and an.They are used before singular countable nouns.Eg.He is a boy.The girl ate an egg.(a is used before consonants and an is used before vowel sounds-a,e,i,o and u)
2.Definite article - the.It denotes some particular person or thing. Eg.I like the roses in your garden.The can be used before singular and plural countable and uncountable nouns.Eg.The table,the windows,the milk,the juices etc.
Definite article the can be used in several contexts.A few examples are given below:
a.before adjectives in the superlative degree-the smallest,the greatest etc
b.before names of things unique of their kind-the Sum,the Moon etc
c.before names of religious books -The bible,the Ramayana ,the Koran etc
d.before singular nouns representing the whole class-The horse is a strong animal,The mango is the sweetest of all fruits.
