how does genes become responsible for deciding the character of a person?

Genes play a greater role in forming character traits -- such as self-control, decision making or sociability.Genetic personality traits are polygenic, which means that they involve multiple genes, not a single gene. The link between genotype and phenotype can range from simple to exceedingly complex. Some characteristics are determined by a single gene and are affected little if at all by the environment of an individual. An example is the texture of your hair, which is directly determined by a single gene.
An additional complication is polygenic expression, which is characteristic of psychological traits such as intelligence and personality. The prevailing view is that a multitude of yet-to-be identified genes are responsible for complex characteristics such as these, and in turn that these are strongly affected by the environment in which a person grows up.
