The sum of ages of father and son is 70 years and the difference of their ages was 34 years. Find the age of father and son?

Let age of father be x and that of son be y.
Then,
according to the given condition,
x + y = 70-------(1)
x - y = 34--------(2)
(1) + (2) gives
2x = 104
x = 104 / 2 = 52
from (1), y = 70 - x
                    = 70 - 52
                   = 18
Hence age of father = 52 and
age of son = 18
