What is the two difference between step up transformer and step down transformer

Difference between the step - up and step - down transformers.

Step- up transformer  Step- down transformer

1. It increases  the a.c. voltage and  decreases the current.

2. The turns ratio  Ns/ N> 1.  that is, it  has  more number of turns in the secondary coil than in the primary coil.

3. The wire of primary coil is thicker than that in the secondary coil.

4. Uses:At power generating  station, with X- ray tubes, television, etc.

1. It increases  the a.c. voltage and  increases the current.

2. Its  turn ratio Ns/Np < 1that is, it has less number of turns in the secondary coil than in the primary coil.

3.The wire in the secondary coil is thicker than that in the primary coil.

4. Uses:  At power substation, with night electric bulb,  radio sets for valve heaters, transistors etc.
