Vietnamese rulers followed the Chinese system of government as well as Chinese
culture. In Vietnam, Chinese was the language of the elite. Large number of Vietnamese followed Confucianism, the religion of China. Vietnamese scholar Phan Boi Chau was educated in Confucian tradition.
