B R Ambedkar was a national figure and leader of the untouchable or Dalit movement. He founded several journals to spread his social message and injected a degree of self-respect to the backward communities and brought them into National Movement. Between 1927 and 1932, Ambedkar led his followers in a series of non-violent campaigns to assert the right of untouchables to enter temples and to draw water from public tanks and wells. He also organized All India Depressed Class Federation. He empowered backward class to participate in national movement. |
