gases do not have fixed volume-give reason

The forces of attraction between gas molecules is too weak for them to mantain any kind of definite volume and the inter atomic forces are too weak to prevent spreading of gas molecules.

The volume of a gas is a function of the pressure, if pressure is increased the volume will drop. If no external pressure is applied gases will expand to fill all the available volume i.e they take the shape of the container in which they are filled in.
