Explain the hybridisation of hydrogen peroxide(H2O2). |
Formula for hydrogen peroxide: H2O2 (note that there are 14 total valence electrons) H---O---O---H As you can see, each oxygen has two bonding pairs and two lone pairs. According to the VSEPR theory, this results in a bent shape at each oxygen (like H2O). Since there are 4 total electron pairs, you know that spĀ³ hybridization occurs. To determine the direction of net dipole moment, first draw the two dipole vectors. Then add up the vectors, and you will find the direction of the net dipole moment. |
