What is mean by a latitude?

 The circle drawn parallel to equator at one degree interval are known as latitudes.They are also known as 'parallels'.Latitude is the angular distance of a place on the earth's surface,north or south of the equator,measured as an angle whose appex is at the centre of the earth.
