What is known as physics? What is the meaning of physics? Who is the father of physics? |
Physics is a science based on experimental, observative and quantitive measurement.Orginally it was devoted to the study of behaviour of physical, non living objects.Today physics is known to be important in all branches of sciences.Since physics is the most fundamental of sciences,it finds numerous applications in other fields. Thus we have those branches of science known as physical chemistry and biophysics etc.Physics has also come to play an important role in medical and surgical research. The physical phenomena and experience that we deal in physics are not only exciting but informative.Newton formulated the law of gravitation on the basis of an experience he had,in the free fall of an apple. The shape of a liquid drop led to the study of surface tension. The study of electricity led to the design of dynamos and motors. Though we observe diversity in the physical world we can understand all these, based on a few concepts. The technological development of any society is closely related with the application of physics and other branches of science. We see the application of physics in every walk of life. The radio, television and telecommunication systems use electromagnetic waves. Another important aspect of physics giving rise to technology is the 'silicon chip' that triggered computer revolution in the last three decades of the twentieth century. Like physics ,chemical and biological sciences are also greatly associated with technology and society. |
