There are some machines that do not provide energy by themselves. They do not even transform energy from one form to another. They are manually handled to perform some mechanical work. They are called simple machines. Screw driver, hammer, ramp, shovel etc. are some simple machines.

A simple machine is a tool that makes our work easier and faster. A simple machine is used to multiply the magnitude of a force or to change the direction of the force. It is

used to increase or decrease the speed of moving object or to make the force act at any desired point.

We draw water from the well by using a pulley. We do not pull out nails from a plank with our fingers. We usually use a claw hammer as a lever. In order to change

tyre of a car, we use a screw jack to raise the car.
