The consumer protection act 1986, also called is one of the most progressive and comprehensive pieces of legislation enacted for better protection of consumers providing redressals mechanism in the act itself. It came in to force on 26th december 1986 as the Magna carta of consumers. This act extends to the whole of India except the state of jam mu and Kashmir. It was enacted after an in depth study of the consumer protection laws in a number of countries and in consultation with representatives of various consumers bodies, trade,commerce and industry associations and after extensive discussion within the government. |
