Comets are celestial objects made up of ice and dust that revolve around the sun in highly elliptical orbits. They have very long period of  revolution. Another name of comet is a tail star. They appear in the sky like a ball of fire with a  long tail. Their tail becomes visible as they approach towards the sun.

When comets come closer to the sun due to sun's heat gases are produced which appears  in the form of a tail. An astronomer called Halley, had  seen it in 1986, named Halley's comet.
