what is the need of a resistor in a circuit and how does it control current flowing through a circuit?

Substances which have comparatively  high electrical resistance ,are called resistors. The alloys like  nichrome, manganin and constantan ,all have quite high resistances,so they are called resistors.Resistors  are used to make those electrical devices where high resistance is required.A resistor reduces the current in a circuit.Since resistors are specified and manufactured over a very large range of values, the derived units of milliohm (1 m? = 10?3 ?), kilohm (1 k? = 103 ?), and megohm (1 M? = 106 ?) are also in common usage.
