WHAT IS PROTON

A proton is a subatomic particle found in the nucleus of every atom .  The particle has a positive electrical charge, equal and opposite to that of the electron .  The number of protons in an element's nucleus is its atomic number .
From the discharge tube experiment ,Goldstein discovered the proton .For this he used a porous cathode and observed that certain rays were traveling from anode to cathode in the opposite direction to cathode rays .These rays were named as anode rays. The smallest unit of the anode ray beam was named as proton .
