When we apply an input ac supply to a rectifier, we know the ac supply contains both positive and negative half cycles like a sine wave. If we connect the diode series with the supply in forward bias and we take the output from a resistor connected parallel to the supply then the positive part is removed and if we have to remove the negative part then we should place the diode in reverse direction then we get another rectified output
