which farming is great Jhoom farming or ordinary farming |
Shifting cultivation which is also known as ‘Jhum’ in Mizoram. This type of cultivation builds up more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere thus enhancing the process of global warming. The system is based on ‘slash and burn’ method of cultivation and is characterized by rotation of field rather than crops. The current practice of shifting cultivation in Mizoram is an extravagant and unscientific method of land use. Ordinary farming is better than Jhoom farming. The rotation type or terrace farming is the best farming procedures adapted today. |
