Chera dynasty is one of the most ancient ruling dynasties in South India. It rules over an area corresponding to modern-day Kerala. It’s period of ruling  started from before the Sangam Age (and lasted until the 12th century AD.Their kingdom extended from  Kerala to some  parts of southern Tamil Nadu. Chera kings ruled their kingdom with Tiruvanchikulam near Cranganore as their main capital. The first Chera ruler was Perumchottu Utiyan Cheralatan.  Other important Chera rulers were Imayavaramban Nedum Cheralatan and Kadalpirakottiya Vel Kelu Kuttuvan. The last known Chera ruler, was Cheraman Perumal. The Cheras faded out of history by the 8th century AD.
