Define voltmeter and ammeter.

The potential difference is measured by means of  an instrument called voltmeter.The voltmeter is always connected in parallel across the two points where the potential difference is to be measured.
Current is measured by an instrument called ammeter.The ammeter is always connected in series with the circuit in which the current is to be measured.
