3. “Family is the oldest social  organization.” Explain?

 It may be defined as a group of persons, united either by a marriage or blood relationship, having a common household, a common tradition or culture. All the members of a family are related to one another. Kinship binds them together. There exists cardinal relationship among the members of a family. It also helps the old, sick, weak and physically challenged members of the family. Family system inculcates good civic virtues like co-operation, sacrifice, tolerance, sympathy and  a broad-minded outlook.

4. “Family is the cradle of civilization.” Explain?

Family is the cradle of  civilization. Our desires are realized in a family. We live to help and support each other in the family. It serves the purpose of living together. It is the best training school for citizenship. Children love their parents very much. Thus the children learn the first lessons of discipline from their family.

5.  Where do the children get education at first?

 The family teaches children the basic values and principles of life. Children begin their education at home. They learn discipline, co-operation, sharing things, honesty, tolerance, how to maintain good health, to show respect to elders and to love younger ones as well as family members. They also learn to depend on their family for love, affection, encouragement, support and co-operation. It is the best training school for citizenship. Children love their parents very much. Thus the children learn the first lessons of discipline from their family.

6. Explain joint family?

 After marriage, if the male members continue to live along with other members of the family i.e., parents, brothers and sisters, such families are called joint families. There might be several generations living in the same house. The oldest member acts as the head of the joint family where considerable authority and respect is given to him. The entire property is owned collectively by all members. He takes every care to safeguard the interests of all the members. Co-operation, sacrifice, tolerance, sympathy and broadmindedness are extended to the members of the family.

7. Explain nuclear family?

A typical nuclear family includes father, mother and one or two children. Both husband and wife will take decisions about their family. There exists individual freedom. If your family is small, your parents will find it easy to spend more money on your education and other needs. Welfare of one’s family is the main aim of the nuclear family system.

8. Explain large family?

 This system of family has a large number of people. The number of children varies from ten or more. In olden days there existed large families. In this type of family system the needs of the members cannot be fulfilled by the head of the family.

9.  What is Small family?

 When the size of the family is small it is called small family or limited family. This family has a husband, wife and one or two children. Small family is an ideal family in the modern era. All the needs of the members will be satisfied in this family.

10. Why should we control the growth of population?

 The desire of possessing high standard of living, social security provided by the Governments in the developed countries like USA, Canada and Japan, effectively control the population growth which leads to better living standards. No doubt, in the world, we have the high growth of population due to which the nation has been facing several socio- economic and ecological problems. To control this situation, the small family norm should be implemented.

11. What is the difference between joint family and a nuclear family?
