The device that is used to enter data into the computer is known as input device.

Keyboard

A keyboard is an Input device. It is used for typing. A keyboard has alphabet keys,number keys and symbol keys.

A keyboard has five different keys:

• Number keys
• Alphabet keys
• Arrow keys
• Function keys
• Special keys

Mouse

A mouse is a pointing device. It has two or three buttons with scroll key in centre. It is used to select various objects on the screen.

There are four mouse actions - Left click ,Right click ,double-click  and drag and drop.

Joystick

Joystick is an input device. It is used for playing games like racing, shooting, Industrial purposes etc.When it is moved ,It passes information to the computer.

Microphone

A microphone is the mike that can be attached to a computer.It is used for recording voice, singing songs and talking to other people.

Web camera

A web camera is used to take live photos and videos.

Scanner 

A scanner copies picture and pages and turns them into images that can be saved on a computer.

Output devices

The  parts of a computer that helps us to show the result of processing are called output devices.

Monitor

A monitor looks like a television.It shows whatever you type on the keyboard or draw with the mouse.It also known as a Visual Display Unit or VDU.The front portion of the monitor is called the screen.

Printer

The printer is an important output device.It is used to print on paper the result of the work done by the computer.

Speakers

Speakers are used for hearing music /voice/sound on a computer.

Headphones

Headphones are small speakers that are worn over the ears so that the sound from the computer goes into the ears of the person wearing the headphones.

Hard copy

The result obtained through printer is called Hardcopy.

Softcopy

The data displayed on the monitor is called Softcopy.
