1. What is Hardware?

Hardware is a general term for the physical components that makes up a computer system. Eg:- Keyboard, Mouse, Monitor, Processor, Circuit board.

2. What is software?

Software is an general term for the program that controls the computer system. There are two types of software

                    System Software and Application Software.

3. What is system software?

System software is a program that allows the hardware to run properly , e.g Operating System.

4. What is Application Software?

Application software programs that allows the user to do specific tasks    e.g- Spreadsheet.

5. What are the Main components of a computer system?

A computer system consisting of input devices, output devices , secondary storage and processor.

6. What are the components of a processing unit?

A processor consists of central processing unit (CPU), internal hard disk, Random Access memory (RAM) and Read Only Memory (ROM).

7. Explain central processing unit?

The central Processing Unit (CPU) is the part of the computer which interprets and execute the commando from the computer hardware and software. CPUs used to be made up of discrete components and numerous small integrated circuits, which were combined together on one of more circuit board.

8. Explain RAM:-

Random Access Memory is an Internal Chip where data is temporarily stored when running applications. This memory can be written to and read from. Since its contents are lost when power to the computer is turned off, it is often reffered to as a 'volatile; or temporary memory.

9. Explain ROM:-

Read only Memory is a memory used to store information that needs to be permanent. It is often used to contain, for example, configuration data for a computer system. These chips cannot be altered and can only be read from. The main advantage is that the information stored on a ROM chip is not lost even when power is turned off to the computer. They are often reffered to us 'non- volatile' memories.

10. What is Boot file?

ROM contains some coding known as the boot file. This code tells the computer what to do when it first starts up; it is often reffered to as the BIOS. (basic input/output system).

11. Explain BIOS:-

BIOS is a code that tells the computer what to do when it first starts up; it is often reffered to as the BIOS (basic input/output System). When the computer is turned on, the BIOS curries out a hardware check find out if all the device are present and whether. They are functional. The BIOS store the date, time and system configuration in a non- volatile chip called a (MOS. which is usually battery powered.

12. What is CMOS?

CMOS- Complementary metal oxide semiconductor. The BIOS stores the date, time and system configuration in a non- volatile chip called a CMOS, which is usually battery powered.

13. What is Operating System?

An operating system (OS) is a set of software that manages computer hardware resources and provides common services for computer programs.Operating System are enable the user to communicate with Computer system or Special software.

14. What are the general task for a typical operating System?

  • Controlling the operation of the input, Output and backing storage device.
  • Supervising the loading, running and storage of application programs.
  • Dealing with errors that occurre in application programs.
  • Maintaining security of the whole computer system.
  • Maintaining a computer log.
  • Allowing communication between user and the computer system.

15. What is user- Interface?

Computer users need to be able to communicate with the operating system- this is called user- interface.  There are two main types of user

interfaces:- Command line interfaces ((CLIS) and graphical user interface (GVIS).

16. What is Command Line Interfaces?

CLS require a user  to type in instructions in order to choose options from menus, open software etc. there  are often a number of commands that need to be typed in, for example, to save or load a file. CLI is that the user in in direct communication with the computer and is not restricted to a  number of pre- determined options.

17. What is Graphical user Interfaces?

GUI allows the uses to interact with a computer using picture or symbols rather than having to type in a number of commands.

GUIS  use various technologies and devices to provide the user interface. One of the most common is windows icon menu and pointing device (WIMP) which was developed for use on personal computer (PCS).

18. What is Desktop Computer?

PC/ desktop usually refers to a general purpose computer which is made up of separate monitor, keyboard mouse and processor unit. The term PC (Personal computer) usually refers to computer system which are IBM- compatible.

19. What are the Advantages of Desktop Computer?

  • Spare parts and connections tend to be standardized which usually results in low costs.
  • Desktop tend to have a better specification for a given price.
  • The large using allows good dissipation of any build up.

20. What are the disadvantages of Desktop computer?

  • Desktop are not particularly portable since they are made up of separate components.
  • All the components need to be looked up the desk space.
  • Be cause they are not particularity portable, it is necessary to copy file etc.
