1. Who is a traffic policeman?

A traffic policeman is person who controls the movement of traffic at road crossings. The main duty of the traffic policeman is to control and regulate the traffic. He generally stands on a raised platform and regulates the traffic by making certain signs with his hands. If any driver goes against the rules, he blows his whistle and stops him. He then challans him accordingly. The duty of the traffic policeman is very hard because he has to stand under the scorching sun or in heavy rain for hours together.

2. How can we be safe on roads?

Do not run, play or walk on the road. Use the footpath to walk, we may get hit by a moving vehicle. Always walk on the footpath. There are no vehicle moving on it. If there is no footpath, walk on the right side so that we can see traffic coming towards us.

3. How should we cross the roads?

When we have to cross the road, we must remember the following rules:

                      When the traffic light is red, it means ‘stop’.
                      When the traffic light is yellow, it means ‘get ready’.  
                      When the traffic light is green, it means ‘go’.
                      Always use the zebra crossing for crossing the road.
                      Look to the right first and then to the left, to see if any vehicle is coming.

                    

4. List the safety rules to be followed on the playground.

                     Be careful while playing on the swings, slides and jungle gym.
                     Do not push others. Wait for your turn.
                     Do not push vacant swings, as it may fly and hit someone. 
                     Do not go so close to the moving swings.
                     Follow the rules of the game.
                     Do not use sports equipments to hurt others.

5. What are things you should remember while driving a bicycle on the road?

                     Follow traffic rules.
                     Do not forget to wear helmet.
                     Do not listen to music with a headphone while riding bicycle.
                     Be careful on wet roads as you may skid and fall.

6. What are the things you should remember while crossing a railway track?

                     Do not walk on the roads or in the tunnels.
                     Do not place any objects on the tracks as they can become dangerous missiles and hurt people nearby. 
                     Do not throw any objects at the train. It can hurt people on the train.
                     Cross the railway tracks only at the railway crossing.
                     While crossing the railway tracks at the gate, wait for the gates to open.
                     Do not go around lowered gates is dangerous.

7. What is called first aid?

First aid is the first medical help give to an injured person before the doctor arrives. The most important things while giving first aid is to stay calm.

8. What are the things found in a first aid box?

We should always have a first aid box at home and in school for any immediate need. A first aid box should have the following things.
                      A first aid book
                      Small pieces of clean cloth
                      A crepe bandage
                      A pair of forceps
                      A small torch
                       A small roll of sterilized gauge and cotton pads
                       A small cotton roll
                       Medicines
                       Bandages
                       Pair of scissors
                       A thermometer
                       A small soap

9. What are the medicines that should be available in the first aid box?

                     An antiseptic lotion to clean the wound.
                     An antiseptic cream to apply on cuts and wounds.
                     An anti burn cream.

10. What first aid should be given in case of a wound?

The wound should be cleaned before applying antiseptic cream. The antiseptic prevents infection by germs. If the wound is deep,it should not be ignored and the person should be rushed to the doctor.
