Page margins are the blank spaces around the edges of the page. It ensures the text is set within a specified margin and the documents looks pleasing.
There are different methods of setting the page margins.
The margins can also be changed using the Page Setup dialog box. Select File → Page Setup and choose the Margins tab in the dialog box.
This option helps in deciding the size of the paper and also the direction of printing on the paper.
Page size and orientation can be changed within the Page Setup dialog box.
NOTE: In portrait Orientation, the document is printed along the width of the paper. In Landscape Orientation, the document is printed along the length of the paper.
A header is the text that is added to the top margin of every page and a footer is the text added to the bottom margin. The header or footer can include text or graphics, for example page number, the date, a company logo, the document title or file name or the author's name.
Follow these steps to add or edit headers and footers in the document.
1. Select View → Header and footer from the menu bar. The Header and Footer toolbar will appear and also the top of the page will be highlighted.
Text can be typed/selected with the methods explained below:
a. Type the heading in the Header box. You may use many of the standard text formatting options such as font face, size, bold, italics etc.
b. Click the Insert → Auto Text button to view a list of quick options that are available.
c. Use the other options on the toolbar to add page numbers, the current date and time.
2. To edit the footer, click the Switch Between Header and Footer button on the toolbar.
3. When you have finished adding Headers and Footers, click the Close button on the toolbar.
Follow these steps to add page numbers to a document.
Print Preview displays the document as it appears after printing. Preview your document by clicking the Print Preview button on the standard toolbar or by selecting File → Print Preview. Margins can be changed in Print Preview using a ruler. The changes applied in preview window will be applied to the whole document.
Note: In Print Preview, the mouse pointer changes to that of a magnifying glass. If you take it to any point on the document and click, it will enlarge that area and you can take a closer look at the document.
When the document is ready to be printed, click the Print button from the print preview screen or select File → Print.
This option is used to select a different name for the printer for printing.
For example: Type 3 to print only third page. Type 5-7 to print fifth page to seventh page.
