Keyboard

A Keyboard is an input device.It has a number of buttons on it called keys. Most keyboard have 104 keys.

There are different types of keys on the keyboard.These are the Alphabet keys,Numeric keys,Special Character keys,Function keys ,Arrow keys and Special keys.

Alphabet keys

The keyboard contain alphabets from A to Z.The alphabet keys are used for typing words and sentences.There are 26 letter(alphabet) keys on the keyboard.

Number keys

Number keys are used for typing numbers.These keys are also called numeric keys.There are Number keys from 0 to 9.

The Number keys are placed above the Letter(alphabet) keys.They are also present on the right side of the keyboard.

 

Arrow keys

The keyboard has four arrow keys. Arrow keys are used to move the cursor left,right,up or down on the computer screen.

 

     The cursor is a small blinking mark on the computer screen.The cursor looks like this .

            It shows the position where a letter ,number or symbol can be typed.

The arrow marked on the keys direct the cursor when those keys are pressed.The Up Arrow key moves the cursor up.The Down Arrow key moves the cursor down.The Right Arrow key moves the cursor to the right.The Left Arrow key moves the cursor to the left.

Function keys

The keyboard has 12 function keys from F1 to F12.The function key make task easy on computer.

 

Special keys

Caps Lock key

You can type capital letters by pressing the Caps Lock key.When the Caps Lock key is pressed ,you see a green light towards the top -right corner of the keyboard.This indicates that the letters typed now would be capital letters.Press it again to turn off the key.Now ,you do not see the green light and the letters typed would be small letters.

Space Bar key

The Space Bar is used to insert blank space between two words or letters.The Space Bar key is the longest key on the keyboard.

 

Enter key

Enter key is the most important key.It helps us to start a new line or a new paragraph while typing.There are two Enter keys on the keyboard.

 

Backspace key

Backspace key is used to erase anything typed on the left of the cursor.

Delete key

Delete key is used to erase anything typed on the right of the cursor.
