The four methods of food preservation are salting, drying, pickling and freezing.

Honey, oil and sugar are the  three natural food preservatives.

3. What is meant by pasteurization?

Milk is boiled at 60oC for half an hour and sufficiently chilled. This method of preserving milk is called pasteurization.

4. What are the symptoms of food poisoning?

The symptoms of food poisoning in fruits and vegetable is the growth of fungi. Growth of fungi  and bad odour are the symptoms of food spoilage in tinned food items. The symptoms of food poisoning in refrigerated food items are the bacteria and fungi, it will grow and spoil, if it is kept out side for a longer period of time.

5. Explain any two methods of food preservation.

Salting and drying are the two important methods of food preservation. Fresh vegetables, fruits, meat and fish are dried and preserved for a longer period. Salting is very essential before drying  for these items, because common salt protects food items from the growth of micro organisms.
Cereals and pulses can be stored without spoilage for a longer period by dry storage.

7. Refrigerated food items should not be kept out side the refrigerator for a longer period of time- why?

If refrigerated food items are kept out side for a longer period of time, at room temperature, the bacteria and fungi will grow and spoil the food items.

8. Write three rules to be followed  in kitchen safe.

a. We should not keep easily inflammable objects in the kitchen.
b. We should not keep clothes and paper bags near the stove.
c. We should not allow children and pet animals in the kitchen.
