a)  6 × 9 means add 9 , six times .

c)  5 × 7 means add 7 five times.
    5 × 7 = 7 + 7 + 7 + 7 + 7

2) Write the following in multiplication form .
    (a) 12 + 12 + 12 + 12       (b) 25 + 25 + 25 + 25 + 25 + 25

a)  Addition of 12 four times means 4 × 12
 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 = 4 × 12
                

b) Addition of 25 six times means 6 × 25
 25 + 25 + 25 + 25 + 25 + 25 = 6 × 25

3) Find the product of the following. 
    (a) 9 × 3            (b) 2 × 7            (c) 5 × 8

  a)  9 × 3 = 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3
                                = 27
                

b) 2 × 7 = 7 + 7
           = 14
                

c) 5 × 8 = 8 + 8 + 8 + 8 + 8
                              = 40

4) Multiply:
   (a) 5 × 3          (b) 9 × 1         (c) 7 × 0

a)  5 × 3 means add 3 five times.
  5 × 3 = 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3
                                          = 15

b)  9 × 1 = 9
If we multiply any number by 1 , we get the number it self .
                         So 9 × 1 = 9
c) 7 × 0 = 0         

If we multiply  any number by 0 ,we get 0.
   7 × 0 = 0

5) If there are 4 horses and each horse have 4 legs.How many legs are there in all ?
     (a) 4     (b) 8      (c) 12     (d) 16

Number of horses = 4
Number of legs each horse have = 4
  Total number of legs = 4 × 4 = 16.

6) If there are 7 boats and each boat has 1 girl .How many girls are there ?

 Number of boats = 7
 Number of girls in each boat = 1
 Total number of girls = 7 × 1
                                     = 7 .

7) Multiply 444 × 2

8) How many sides make up figure ' A ' ?
    How many sides are needed to make 15 figures like 'A' ?
    

 Figures  'A' has 8 sides.
  Numbers of sides of 15 such figures
                                  = 15 × 8
                                  = 120

9) Find the product of
     (a) 775 × 10      (b)  508 × 100     (c) 7 × 1000

 a) 775 ×10 = 7750 ( To multiply a number by 10, write the number and put a zero at the right.)
 b) 508 × 100 = 50800 ( To multiply a number by 100 , write two zeroes at right  after the numeral.)
 c) 7 × 1000 = 7000 ( To multiply a number by 1000 , write three zeroes after the numeral.)

10) Vivek has 56 ten - rupee notes .How much money does he have ?

  The money in his hand = 56 × 10
                                    = Rs. 560
